Workshops should be booked in advance 

Workshops are aimed at intermediate players with some experience of playing by ear.
Places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, and only two workshops may be booked initially.
Any spare places will be made available from 9.30am on the day.

Please note that in the interests of participants, spectators are not allowed into workshops

Outside of the tours and recordings, Harald is known as an excellent and enthusiastic music teacher. Along with his full time job as professor at the Carl Nielsen Academy, he teaches regularly around the world.  Harald will instruct on how to play music from the Danish folk scene.

A2       Crossover between Classical and Traditional Styles Alastair Savage

A prize winning Scottish fiddle player in his youth, Alastair Savage has performed classical and traditional music throughout his life. Alastair will show that fiddlers can use their classical training in order to play traditional music more effectively. All levels welcome at the workshop. All levels welcome.

 A3       Dissecting Irish Tunes Martin Hayes
East Drawing Room

Not only a gifted musician, Martin Hayes has composed scores for a contemporary US dance company, a one-hour documentary and a short animated film. Martin will use his expertise in both areas to explore the essence of a tune by taking it apart and putting it together again.

A4       A Taste of Canadian Fiddling Nellie Quinn

With roots in traditions such as Cape Breton, Quebecois, Métis (indigenous first people of Canada) and Old Time music, Nellie Quinn comes in high demand as a teacher. Discover the different styles of Canadian fiddling and go home with a few new tunes and an understanding of this genre.

Dennis Cahill is a gifted guitarist, as well-versed in classical, blues, jazz and rock as he is in traditional music. Guitarists will glean helpful tips and tunes from this masterful musician.

A6       Pipe Tunes on the Fiddle Gabe McVarish
West Chorus Room

Having taught at festivals and higher education establishments including the University of Limerick, Gabe McVarish’s versatility as a tutor leaves him highly sought after. Gabe will explain gracings and ornamentation systems in Scottish and Irish pipe tunes. Notation available.
