1:00pm Gavin Pennicook Described as a cross between a fiddle and a battleship, the nyckelharpa is a 16-stringed Swedish keyed fiddle. Gavin Pennycook spent most of his youth playing Irish & Scottish music on the fiddle, first encountering the nyckelharpa in Sweden in 1994. Obtaining his own nyckelharpa in 2007, Gavin focused on adapting the Celtic fiddle repertoire for the instrument. In 2010, Gavin released the "Celtic Nyckelharpa", the first ever album ever to be devoted to Celtic dance music on the nyckelharpa, giving an exciting new direction both to old fiddle tunes and to the harpa. |
