This flagship youth ensemble celebrate 40 years of transformational opportunities in traditional music and Gaelic language. Intensive monthly fiddle classes for advanced players, currently under the astute tutelage of Lauren MacColl, guides this vibrant, forward-looking presence honouring Highland fiddle traditions.
The Kiltearn Fiddlers is a flagship youth ensemble within Fèis Rois, which in 2026 celebrates 40 years of creating transformational opportunities for people of all ages to engage in traditional music and the Gaelic language.
Founded in 1990 by Alpha Munro, four years into the charity’s work, The Kiltearn Fiddlers continues to nurture advanced young players from Ross-shire and beyond.
The Kiltearn Fiddlers is a monthly intensive fiddle class for advanced players of secondary school age, working on technique, repertoire, harmony, rhythm and arranging. Now led by acclaimed fiddle player and alumna Lauren MacColl, the ensemble benefits from Lauren's professional skill, deep knowledge of local repertoire and extensive teaching experience, including previously at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Recent performances include Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Blas Festival and a widerange of community events. With alumni including members of Assynt, RANT, Elephant Sessions and Tide Lines, the group maintains a vibrant, forward-looking presence while honouring Highland fiddle traditions.
