Showcases

All Showcases take place in The Quaker Studio at The Pleasance.

  • They run on both Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th November; from 12 noon until 5pm, with a short break between each Showcase.

  • There are five Showcases each day; each of approximately 45 minutes.

  • This is a great chance to see some new, and familiar, faces at the top of their game.

Ticket costs

  • Tickets are £14.00 per person, per Showcase - or you can buy an Afternoon Showcase Day Ticket for £45.00 which covers entry to all of that day’s Showcases.

  • Accompanied children aged 12 or under are entitled to free entry to the Showcases (up to 2 children per paying adult).

  • Personal assistants/carers are also entitled to free entry to the Showcases.

  • All Showcases at 12:00 noon are FREE to everyone.


Saturday Showcases: 15 November



12:00 noon: Youth: Plockton Music School

FREE event

Featuring the current crop of 6th Year students. From Gaelic and Scots songs to toe-tapping reels, this event showcases the diverse traditions and contemporary interpretations that make Scottish music so extraordinary. Click here to find out more

1:00pm: Morag Brown and Lewis Powell-Reid

Morag and Lewis will play their repertoire of both composed and traditional music from Scotland and beyond. With Lewis on accordion, guitar, and cittern - and Morag on both fiddle and its five-string variant - their passion and spontaneity moves them freely between melody, harmony, and improvisation. With influences from the Balkans to Greece, their music moves sublimely from that steeped in Celtic heritage to something altogether more eclectic. Click here to find out more

2:00pm: Cuan-A-Tuath

This award-winning, Glasgow-based ban draw their inspiration and influence from old traditional Swedish songs and polskas alongside Highland strathspeys and reels. The highly-acclaimed trio include Séamus Ó Baoighill (fiddle and pipes), Kristina Leesik (vocals and fiddle) and Dan Brown (piano). Driven by their innately curious nature and capacity to absorb and evolve, their versatility to harmoniously entwine contrasting styles so evocatively promises a real highlight. 3:00pm: Patsy Reid and Alice Allen

Strathspey Queens, Banchory-born cellist Alice Allen and the Perthshire fiddler Patsy Reid, are two highly sought-after and versatile musicians who will première a brand-new composition by the brilliant Simon Thoumire entitled The Earl of Loudon’s Strathspey. Alongside an already eclectic back catalogue of classics, this new work will be the highlight of yet another astute performance. Click here to find out more

4:00pm: Plockton Music School 25th Anniversary

The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special concert for our Festival: uniting current and former students. Sunday Showcases: 16 November


12:00 noon: Skadoosh

FREE event

Skadoosh is a dynamic new force in contemporary folk. Rooted in traditional Scottish music, but unafraid to push boundaries, this trio blends piano/bouzouki, fiddle, and pipes/whistle to create a vibrant and powerful sound that is unmistakably their own. Drawing inspiration from ceilidh roots, modern trad, and genre-bending acts, Skadoosh delivers energy that blends rich melodies with driving rhythm. Click here to find out more

1:00pm: Ali McCulloch and Séan Gray

Two of south-west Scotland’s best-known traditional musicians, renowned fiddler Alistair McCulloch and guitarist/flautist/singer Séan Gray join forces for this showcase; focusing on the lesser-known fiddle traditions of Ayrshire; past and present. Expect driving reels and jigs as well as beautifully tender airs. Click here to find out more

2:00pm: Swinging on Birches

Swinging on Birches is an exciting and innovative new trio consisting of Juliette Lemoine (cello), Madeleine Stewart (fiddle), and Heather Cartwright (guitar/vocals). Predominantly influenced by their shared love of traditional Scottish music, each brings their own personal interpretation and together, the band weaves songs, tunes and harmonies to create lush, intricate pieces. 3:00pm: Graham Mackenzie and Innes Watson

Highland fiddler and composer Graham Mackenzie is an innovative musician. His award-winning albums have raised his profile as one of our most prominent composers. Influenced by Scottish, Irish, and Cape Breton styles, he combines self-penned tunes alongside repertoire to shape him as a gifted musician. Graham launches his second book of his own music at the Festival. Innes Watson, from Glasgow, is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist with over 21 years of contemporary and traditional Scottish music performance, recording, teaching and producing experience cumulatively. 4:00pm: Robbie Greig and Connor Markey

Award-winners Markey and Greig, on guitar and fiddle respectively, honed their sublime stagecraft skills while touring extensively with the Paul McKenna Band, but more recently, started playing together as a duo. For SFF 2025, they will showcase a selection of beautiful tunes, old and new, with a blend of evocative songs from across Scotland, Ireland, and America. Click here to find out more
