Meallan

Meallan are a Scottish folk group, blending fiddle, clàrsach, accordion, guitar, keyboard, and Gaelic song into a modern-traditional sound. Formed in 2024, the six-piece forged a musical connection and have established themselves as one of the exciting emerging acts in the Scottish Trad scene.

With members hailing from Orkney to Newcastle, the band consists of: Eòin Cumming on accordion, alongside fiddlers Kirsty Harrison and Ruby Smith, clàrsach player Catriona Kane, guitarist Anja Maclennan, and pianist Matthew Duncan, Meallan draw on influences from across Scotland, the UK, and Europe.

Their music combines original compositions and arrangements with a contemporary edge and respect for traditional roots. Since their formation, they have performed at Orkney Folk Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Piping Live, and the Edinburgh International Festival. Winners of a 2026 Danny Kyle Award, Meallan released their debut single, Groovy Gal, and will release the final tracks from their EP in summer 2026.
